Rangers have completed the signing of right-back Max Aarons on a season-long loan deal from Premier League club Bournemouth, subject to international clearance.
The move makes Aarons the second new signing of Rangers’ 2025-26 rebuild, following midfielder Lyall Cameron, who agreed a pre-contract deal with the club back in February.
Aarons is also the first arrival to be sanctioned by new Rangers head coach Russell Martin, signalling the direction the manager wants to take his squad.
Bournemouth had been pushing for a permanent transfer rather than a temporary arrangement, having paid £7 million for the full-back back in 2023.
Rangers, however, preferred a loan structure and ultimately got the deal done on those terms, with the agreement beginning on 25 June 2025.
The England-born defender arrives with top-flight experience and had only recently returned from a loan spell at La Liga club Valencia, where he spent the second half of the 2024-25 season.
Aarons joined Valencia on 13 January 2025, with that temporary move running until the end of the campaign before he headed straight back to the Championship side.
Rangers assistant manager Matt Gill is understood to have played a key role in progressing the deal, having previously worked with Aarons and maintaining a strong professional relationship with the player.
The 25-year-old is expected to bring pace and attacking quality to the Rangers right flank as Martin looks to put his own stamp on the Ibrox side this summer.
Aarons has already spoken about his excitement at the prospect of experiencing Old Firm football, with the fierce Glasgow derby against Celtic one of the defining fixtures in the Scottish football calendar.
Rangers supporters will be eager to see how the defender settles into Martin’s system, with the new head coach known for his preference for technically capable, possession-based football.
The club continues to work on further additions to the squad as they look to build a serious title challenge against Celtic in the 2025-26 Scottish Premiership campaign.
