Chelsea have wrapped up the signing of Strasbourg midfielder Valentin Barco on a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old becomes the sixth arrival of the summer for the Blues, joining a rapidly assembled squad ahead of the new season.
He follows Morgan Rogers, Danny Welbeck, Emmanuel Emegha, Maxence Lacroix and Marco Palestra through the door at Chelsea this summer.
Barco will immediately link up with the squad on Chelsea’s ongoing pre-season tour in Asia, joining his new teammates without delay.
The Blues are scheduled to face Italian giants Juventus in Hong Kong on 5 August, giving Barco an early opportunity to impress.
Chelsea have not publicly disclosed the transfer fee paid to Strasbourg for the Argentine midfielder’s services.
Barco made one appearance for Argentina at the 2026 World Cup, where his country reached the final before finishing as runners-up to Spain.
He was notably slapped by England’s Jude Bellingham following Argentina’s semi-final victory over the Three Lions during the tournament.
A graduate of the Boca Juniors academy, Barco made the move to Brighton in 2024 for a fee of £7.9 million.
His time on the south coast proved short-lived, lasting just a single year before he joined Strasbourg following a successful loan stint there.
Barco becomes the second player this summer to make the switch from Strasbourg to Chelsea, with both clubs under the shared ownership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
The deal marks the 13th transfer conducted between the two clubs since the start of last season, underlining the strength of the cross-channel partnership.
The growing volume of business between Chelsea and Strasbourg continues to raise eyebrows, given the regularity and scale of player movement between them.
