United flop set for Serie A in plot for Real Madrid target

Fellaini

Italian side Fiorentina are planning a move for Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini as the Red Devils hope to offload the player in order to raise funds for prime target Angel di Maria, according to reports.

Belgium international Fellaini was brought to United last summer in a big-money deal – £27M paid to his old side Everton – that is deemed a costly mistake in light of the 26-year-old failing to fit in at Old Trafford last season.

According to The Express, United’s newly-appointed first team coach Louis van Gaal is keen to sell the Belgian in order to make his approach to La Liga giants Real Madrid for Argentine midfielder di Maria, who he has long since admired.

The Red Devils are said to be looking for upwards of £15M for Fellaini, who has just returned from Brazil with the Belgium national team following their knock-out at the World Cup quarter final stage by Argentina.

Serie A side Fiorentina are the first club to have expressed an interest in Fellaini and Man United are hoping for a swift approach so their bid for di Maria can be exercised prior to the start of the 2014/2015 season.
