Real Madrid are willing to sell Aurelien Tchouameni to Manchester United this summer as they look to fund a move for Manchester City midfielder Rodri.
Manchester United have “recently enquired” about a deal for the France international, signalling strong intentions to land the defensive midfielder.
The Spanish giants are prepared to cash in on Tchouameni despite new manager Jose Mourinho initially planning to build his squad around the player.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had reported that Tchouameni agreed on a new deal with Madrid until 2031, with Mourinho said to be a key factor in his decision to extend his stay at the Bernabeu.
However, no formal announcement of that contract extension has yet been made, leaving the door open for United to pursue a deal.
The report claims that Madrid could move to sell Tchouameni if they believe a move for Rodri is achievable this window, using the transfer funds to finance the ambitious switch.
Rodri, 30, is out of contract next year, but his performances at the World Cup have raised the possibility of a move happening this summer rather than as a free agent.
Real Madrid view landing the Ballon d’Or winner as a priority, and selling Tchouameni to United for £68m would provide significant financial firepower to make that happen.
Manchester United have already brought in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans this summer, but manager Michael Carrick is still pushing to add a specialist defensive midfielder to his squad.
United’s interest in Tchouameni first emerged when he was identified as a potential target ahead of his current contract at the Bernabeu expiring in 2028, and that pursuit has now been revived with fresh urgency.
