Arsenal and Liverpool target Pedro Rodriguez has been told he will not be leaving Barcelona after speaking to sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.

The tricky Spanish winger played an important part in Barcelona’s last campaign but doubts over his future became heard following the arrival for Luis Enrique as boss, with the former midfielder keen to examine his squad.

Arsenal and Liverpool, amongst the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain were credited with interest, but Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo have reported that the Tenerife-born winger will remain at the Camp Nou next season.

Pedro told the media outlet that he had spoken with sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta, who said earlier in the week that he was ‘non transferable’ and that he was now feeling good about his future at the club.

“They were some nice words to reassure me,” Pedro said.

“The important thing is my job and when the time comes, to fight and compete like I always have, and hopefully have a good season.

Pedro was then quizzed on the pending arrival of Luis Suarez from Liverpool and he replied in a buoyant mood over the possibility of playing alongside the Uruguayan striker.

“Suarez is a great striker and he has shown that in England, he could do well here.”
