Chelsea goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina is undergoing a trial at RC Strasbourg Alsace that could last several weeks, according to reports from L’Equipe.

The 22-year-old American international has travelled to France as Strasbourg search for a new first-choice goalkeeper to replace Mike Penders this summer.

Penders has returned to Chelsea following a successful loan spell in Alsace, leaving the Ligue 1 side needing to strengthen between the posts ahead of next season.

Slonina originally joined Chelsea from Chicago Fire in 2022 and remains under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2028, having made just one senior international appearance for the United States in 2023.

The goalkeeper has previously spent time on loan at both Eupen and Barnsley, gaining experience away from west London as he searches for a route into regular first-team football.

New Strasbourg head coach Hugo Oliveira has made clear that his system demands goalkeepers function as an 11th outfield player, meaning Slonina’s footwork will come under particular scrutiny during the trial period.

Should Slonina fail to convince the club, Chelsea’s Filip Jorgensen has also been identified as a potential target, with reports suggesting Chelsea are open to moving the 24-year-old on this summer.

Away from the goalkeeper situation, Strasbourg are bracing themselves for significant departures, with the club potentially set to generate around £60 million from player sales during the transfer window.

Diego Moreira is closing in on a move to AS Roma, with Sky Italia and L’Equipe both reporting a deal worth approximately £35 million for the Belgium international, who has been a key figure at the club over the past two seasons.

Julio Enciso could also leave after just one season in Alsace, having joined from Brighton and Hove Albion last summer for £10 million before impressing for Paraguay at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has attracted interest from Galatasaray, with the Turkish club’s manager confirming their pursuit of the South American, who strengthened his reputation significantly on the international stage this summer.

Club captain Emanuel Emegha has already completed his move to Chelsea, with left-back Valentin Barco also expected to follow him to Stamford Bridge in what is shaping up to be a busy summer of transfer activity between the two sister clubs.
