Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho has not reported for pre-season training as the club actively seek to move him on this summer.
The Premier League side began their pre-season sessions on Thursday for first-team players not currently involved in the World Cup, with the sessions held at Cobham.
Garnacho’s absence from those sessions underlines the growing uncertainty surrounding his future at Stamford Bridge after a difficult debut campaign.
The 21-year-old joined Chelsea in a £40m deal from Manchester United on a seven-year contract but struggled to make a significant impact in his first season in west London.
He managed just one Premier League goal across 24 appearances, with 10 of those coming from the substitutes’ bench under Enzo Maresca and then Liam Rosenior.
Chelsea value the Argentine winger at around £43m, equivalent to 50m Euros, and will only consider permanent offers rather than temporary arrangements.
Roma have been linked with a loan move for the winger, but Chelsea have made clear that a temporary deal is not something they are willing to entertain.
Premier League clubs, European sides, and teams from Saudi Arabia are also understood to have expressed interest, with talks progressing with several parties across multiple markets.
Manchester United inserted a 10% sell-on clause into the deal when Garnacho departed Old Trafford, meaning they stand to benefit from any future transfer fee.
Any departure forms part of a wider squad overhaul being overseen by new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso ahead of the coming season.
The club have already completed the signings of full-back Marco Palestra from Atalanta for £47m and winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting for £40m.
Significant sales have also been confirmed, with Marc Cucurella joining Real Madrid for £52m and Tyrique George moving to Everton for a fee that could rise to £24m.
Chelsea are targeting a new centre-back this summer, with Crystal Palace’s Maxence Lacroix among those identified, while Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria is in talks over a move to west London.
Trevoh Chalobah is among the expected outgoings, with his camp exploring potential switches to Italian clubs Inter Milan and Como.
Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League last season and are set to embark on a pre-season tour of Australia and Asia within the next fortnight.
