Henderson is making progress following the freak accident that saw him break his arm celebrating England’s dramatic 3-2 World Cup victory over Mexico.

The midfielder slipped and fell over an advertising hoarding at the Azteca Stadium, requiring immediate medical attention from staff pitchside.

Henderson, who was an unused substitute during the match, was left in immense agony following the fall and had to be given oxygen by medical staff.

He was subsequently stretchered off the pitch and transported directly to a local hospital to receive further treatment for his injury.

The serious injury occurred while Henderson was clambering over the hoardings following England’s thrilling round-of-16 victory at the iconic Azteca Stadium.

England had secured a 3-2 win over 10-man Mexico thanks to a Harry Kane penalty and a brace from Jude Bellingham in a pulsating contest.

Speaking on Lions’ Den, Marc Guehi offered an encouraging update on his international colleague’s condition and current state of mind.

Guehi said: “Hendo’s a good man, he’s in a better place than he was yesterday. It was obviously scary for him and his family and for everyone else, but we’re just glad that he’s on the road to a speedy recovery.”

It has been confirmed that Henderson will miss the remainder of the World Cup, though the exact timeline for his return to club action remains unclear.

Despite the devastating blow, Henderson is expected to remain with the squad to offer moral support as England continue their pursuit of glory.

Wayne Rooney has suggested that Henderson’s absence could prove to be a “real loss” for England as the tournament progresses into its latter stages.

Manager Thomas Tuchel expressed immense pride in how his players handled the pressure against Mexico but admitted the injury dampened what should have been a joyous night.

England must now quickly refocus ahead of a quarter-final clash against Norway in Miami on Saturday night, where Guehi and Nico O’Reilly will face their Manchester City team-mate Erling Haaland.

Haaland recently scored twice in a 2-1 round-of-16 win against Brazil, underlining the significant threat Norway pose to England’s World Cup ambitions.

Guehi, Nico O’Reilly, and Declan Rice are all one yellow card away from suspension, adding extra pressure to England’s preparations for the quarter-final.
