Football Express News understands that Newcastle United have agreed a deal with Feyenoord for Dutch defender Daryl Janmaat.

The Dutch defender was in superb form last season for Eredivisie side Feyenoord and is currently part of his country’s World Cup squad, who face Argentina in the semi-final on Wednesday night.

Interest in the 24-year-old has been heavy since the turn of the summer with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle having been credited.

And, it is understood that the latter have agreed a deal in principle for him to join following the World Cup in Brazil.

Newcastle’s interest follows a reported move for French defender Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal, whom is expected to replace Bacary Sagna, who left the Gunners last month.

Janmaat began his career at Feyenoord, before a short spell with ADO Den Haag and four years with Herenveen.

He returned to his boy-hood club in 2007 and has since gone on to become a first team regular, making 74 appearances in the last two seasons.
