Ex-Chelsea star in Italy to seal Serie A switch

Cole

Former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole could complete his move to Serie A outfit Roma as early as this afternoon, according to fresh reports in the Italian media.

The ex-England international, who is a free agent after leaving Stamford Bridge at the start of the month, has jetted out for talks with the Giallorossi and has been accompanied by his legal representatives.

A meeting has been scheduled to take place later on this morning and the 33-year-old could put pen to paper on a lucrative two or three-year deal in the subsequent hours, reports Il Corriere della Sera.

His proposed switch to the Italian capital would bring down the curtain on a decorated career which has so far been spent exclusively in England.

He started his career at Arsenal before making a controversial move across London to rivals Chelsea in 2006, following a breakdown in contract negotiations with the Gunners.

Cole decided to call time on his international career after being left out of the England squad for their ill-fated World Cup campaign in Brazil, with boss Roy Hodgson preferring Everton’s Leighton Baines and Manchester United youngster Luke Shaw.

He won 107 caps for the Three Lions during a 13-year spell between 2001 and 2014.
