Saints legend blasts Liverpool target

Lovren

Southampton stalwart Matt Le Tissier has blasted Saints defender Dejan Lovren over reports that he wants to leave the club because their star players are being sold.

A source close to Liverpool told Football Express News that the Reds retain a strong interest in the towering centre-half and hope to make him the third south coast acquisition of the summer.

Boss Brendan Rodgers and the club’s directors have already successfully worked together to lure striker Rickie Lambert and midfield man Adam Lallana to Merseyside from St Mary’s.

Lovren, who caught the eye with a string of impressive displays in the 2013-14 campaign, could be next out of the exit door just weeks after the departure of head coach Mauricio Pochettino, who joined Tottenham Hotspur on a five-year deal.

Le Tissier vented his fury on social media site Twitter and urged the 25-year-old to stay quiet until any transfer is completed.

He said: “So @DejanLovren05 wants to leave SFC for LFC because we’re selling best players. If he signs & they sell Suarez will he want another transfer?

“IMO until your club accept a bid from a team wishing to buy you, the player in question should keep his trap shut.”

Lovren still has three years remaining on his contract at Southampton.
