Brazil beat wonderful Colombia

David Luiz scored a sublime free-kick to help Brazil beat Colombia 2-1 and setup a semi-final tie with Germany.

The World Cup hosts found themselves ahead after just seven minutes in Fortaleza thanks to a well worked corner which saw Thiago Silva arrive at the back post to bundle the ball across the line.

Colombia, who had impressed in the earlier round of the tournament almost hit back through Juan Cuadrado, but his drilled effort deflected off Silva and failed to test Julio Cesar.

Hulk came close for Brazil moments later but he was kept out by the equally impressive David Ospina.

Neymar tried to make it 2-0 before half-time but effort was once again well stopped by Ospina.

James Rodriguez came close moments later, before the Monaco forward found Fredy Guarin, who sent his half volley way over the crossbar.

The Selecao did get a second as David Luiz sent a delightful free-kick past a helpless Ospina, but Brazil’s goal did nothing else than waken a battling Colombia.

James Rodriguez was trying to pull the strings and he gave the onlooking Brazilian fans something to worry about after converting a late penalty kick.

Brazil did hold on to set-up a semi-final tie against Germany.
