FEN understands Real Madrid upped their pursuit of AS Monaco hitman Ramadel Falcao this week and significant progress has been made, with an outline agreement now reached.

It has been revealed on Goal.com that the La Liga giants are on the verge of sealing their long-awaited proposal to bring the Columbian ace to the Bernabau.

The report states the agreement which has been made will see the striker accept a significant pay cut in order to push through the transfer quickly so he can return to his home in Madrid.

It is understood that Falcao’s contract with Monaco does not carry a release fee clause and permits the 28-year-old to leave the Ligue 1 side, should an attractive offer be put on the table.

The contract also states that the £60M transfer fee Monaco paid when they signed the player from his former club – Real Madrid’s local rivals Atletico – must be matched.

The Columbian forward, who has been linked with Real Madrid since his transfer to Monaco last summer, has expressed his strong desire to move back to the Spanish capitol having suffered a rough season in the French Riviera plagued by injury.  His agent Jorge Mendes is also keen for his client to return to Spain.

Despite the latest revelations, Monaco’s vice president Vadim Vasilyey is continuing to rubbish rumours on behalf of the club, stating in a press conference yesterday that no negotiations are taking place over the Columbian star and that the club believes he will enjoy a successful 2014/2015 season in Moncao.

Vasilyey said: “This subject about Falcao has not evolved. We think he will play a really good 2014/2015 season in Monaco.”
