Italians enter race for Spurs target

Quagliarella

Tottenham Hotspur target Fabio Quagliarella is reportedly being tracked by Serie A rivals Hellas Verona and Chievo.

The Juventus hitman has no shortage of suitors this summer and is widely-expected to depart Turin in the coming weeks.

According to Italian source La Stampa, he could yet join Verona as part of the deal which would see highly-rated Juan Iturbe join Antonio Conte’s champions.

However, Juve are also said to be waiting on a response from Chievo regarding Quagliarella and they expect an update on their interest in the next few days.

A source close to White Hart Lane told Football Express News that the 31-year-old is one of a number of attack-minded targets being evaluated by Spurs and they could yet make an offer.

Technical director Franco Baldini is in charge of player recruitment at the north London club and has an extensive list of contacts in Italy, which could give him the edge in negotiations in they decide to table a bid.

Spurs are anxious to add at least one striker to their squad before the new season starts, having failed to replace England forward Jermain Defoe, who was sold to MLS side Toronto FC in February.

Quagliarella would not command a large transfer fee as he has less than 12 months remaining on his current contract.
