Bayern Munich set to announce Garay signing

Garay

Football Express News understands that Bayern Munich are set to announce the summer signing of Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay.

The Argentine defender has attracted interest from a number of top European clubs, including Premier League side Manchester United, who have held a long term interest, both under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes.

Garay, who played a big part in the Portuguese side’s domestic title success and Europa League runners-up campaign, is one of the most highly rated defenders in European football and that has led Bayern Munich to progress with talks.

Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg were said to have been close to the signing, but Bayern boss Pep Guardiola is said to have played a bid part in convincing the Argentine international to move to the Allianz Arena.

The 27-year-old, who is currently preparing with his national side for the World Cup in Brazil, is expected to sign shortly after the tournament in a deal costing the Bundesliga champions £25m.

Garay began his career in his native Argentina with Newell’s Old Boys, before moving to Europe with Racing Santander, who later sold him to Real Madrid.
