United face fight for Italy attacker

Cerci

Roma are reportedly ready to make a £15.8million offer for Manchester United target Alessio Cerci.

Italian source TuttoSport claims the Serie A heavyweights have jumped to the front of a long queue of suitors and are set to enter into talks with the Torino wideman’s representatives in the coming days.

An Old Trafford insider told Football Express News they are still monitoring the situation with interest but have a number of targets in mind and may choose to not become involved in a bidding war, especially with clubs in Cerci’s homeland.

Roma themselves look set to face stiff competition from rivals AC Milan and Inter Milan before the summer transfer window slams shut, although Inter plan to offer less money but a player in exchange.

Directors hope the Italy international arrives in the capital in a swiftly-completed deal, and are anxious to avoid a long-running saga which threatens to drag on until the end of next month if Torino hold out for the best deal.

The versatile forward, who can operate out wide on both flanks or through the middle as a supporting striker, scored 13 goals in 37 appearances for his club last term.

He has only 12 months remaining on his current contract.
