England head coach Thomas Tuchel faces a series of key selection decisions ahead of Sunday’s World Cup group game against Panama.
The Three Lions have made an unconvincing start to the tournament, drawing 0-0 with Ghana in their second group match on Tuesday.
Tuchel made two changes for that game, bringing in Djed Spence and Marc Guehi in place of Nico O’Reilly and John Stones.
The question now is whether those players return to the starting lineup, or whether the England manager opts for further changes to freshen up his side.
Former England striker Alan Shearer believes Tuchel should shake things up significantly for the Panama fixture this weekend.
“I think Tuchel will change it up,” Shearer told BBC Sport, signalling his expectation of a more attacking and fluid England lineup.
Shearer pointed specifically to the impact made by Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford from the bench in both of England’s matches so far.
“Bukayo Saka and Rashford have definitely done enough when they have come on in both games to get a chance to start,” Shearer said.
The former Newcastle and Blackburn striker also identified the left-back position as an area where Tuchel is likely to make a change on Sunday.
“Another change I can see happening is at left-back, with O’Reilly coming back in for Spence,” Shearer added, suggesting the young midfielder could return to his defensive role.
There are further fitness concerns within the England camp, with Reece James and Declan Rice both set to have their physical conditions assessed ahead of the Panama clash.
Rice’s availability is a significant concern given his importance to how England control games and dictate tempo in the middle of the park.
England will be eager to secure a positive result against Panama and build much-needed momentum following their underwhelming opening two group performances.
