Manchester City have agreed a deal worth £116m with Nottingham Forest to sign England midfielder Elliot Anderson in a club record transfer.

The 23-year-old is set to undergo a medical before completing his move to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

City sources insist the fee is a straight £116m with no bonus payments attached to the agreement.

Other sources claim the total deal could be worth up to £130m, which would represent a British record transfer fee.

That figure would surpass the £125m Liverpool paid Newcastle for striker Alexander Isak last summer, setting a new benchmark for British football.

Forest had held out for a significant fee and rejected two previous offers from City before finally accepting a third bid.

Personal terms are not expected to cause any complications, with confidence growing throughout negotiations that a deal would eventually be completed.

Anderson is currently focused on England’s final Group L World Cup game against Panama on Saturday, having pushed his club future firmly to one side.

“It’s pretty easy really, I’m just focusing on the present, I’m blocking it all out,” he told BBC Sport this week.

“I’ve got a plan and it’s to perform for England. I’m putting myself in the best position to cross the line and do that.”

Anderson originally joined Forest for £35m from Newcastle in 2024 and made 88 appearances for the club, scoring four goals during his time there.

He helped Forest finish seventh in the Premier League in 2024-25 and then 16th last season, when the club also reached the Europa League semi-finals.

His influence at Forest grew significantly during the 2025-26 campaign, leading the Premier League in touches with 3,300, possession won with 306, duels won with 297, and fouls drawn with 80.

Anderson first joined his boyhood club Newcastle at the age of eight before making his first-team debut in 2021, going on to make 55 appearances for the Magpies.

His sale to Forest was effectively forced upon Newcastle due to fears over profit and sustainability rules, with manager Eddie Howe calling it “the most reluctant in my career.”

After switching his international allegiance from Scotland youth level to England under-21s in August 2024, Anderson made his senior England debut in September 2025.

Forest are now expected to reinvest heavily in the transfer market, with interest reported in Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall and Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi as they look to sign two midfielders this summer.
