Bellamy’s proposed switch to Championship side Burnley has fallen through, ending speculation over his future as Wales national team manager.

The Clarets had approached the Football Association of Wales with a clear view to appointing the 46-year-old as Scott Parker’s successor at Turf Moor.

Bellamy held talks with the Lancashire club, but negotiations have now broken down and the move appears to have been abandoned entirely.

The collapse of the deal is understood to be unrelated to any compensation dispute between Burnley and the Football Association of Wales.

However, negotiations surrounding Bellamy’s backroom staff joining him at Turf Moor were thought to be a significant sticking point in the discussions.

With Bellamy now set to remain with Wales, Burnley have turned their attention to other candidates to fill the managerial vacancy left by Parker’s sacking.

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Rob Edwards has emerged as a serious contender for the Turf Moor role following the breakdown of Bellamy’s proposed move.

Edwards had previously been considered as a potential replacement for Bellamy with Wales and remains in contention for the Burnley position after departing Molineux earlier this month.

Bellamy himself has a strong connection to Burnley, having served as a coach under Vincent Kompany at the club between 2022 and 2024, and briefly taking charge in a caretaker capacity.

BBC Sport had revealed on 30 April that Bellamy was a leading contender to replace Parker after the former Burnley boss was sacked by the Championship club.

The ex-Manchester City, Liverpool and West Ham forward was appointed Wales manager in 2024 and has been in charge as the national side navigated a difficult period.

Wales failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, suffering a painful penalty shoot-out defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in Cardiff that ended their hopes.

Despite the World Cup disappointment, Bellamy remains contracted with Wales through to 2028, a deal that encompasses the upcoming European Championships.

Those European Championships will be held across England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland, giving Bellamy a significant home tournament to target with his squad.
