Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal to bring in experienced goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on a free transfer when his Burnley contract expires on 1 July.
The 37-year-old Slovakian made 35 Premier League appearances for the Clarets last season and arrives at Spurs with considerable top-flight experience behind him.
Dubravka becomes Roberto de Zerbi’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of defenders Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson on free transfers.
Netherlands defender Jan Paul van Hecke also joined the club from Brighton for a fee of £52 million, underlining the scale of Spurs’ defensive rebuild this summer.
The signings come as Tottenham look to move on from back-to-back 17th-placed Premier League finishes, with De Zerbi tasked with turning the club’s fortunes around.
Questions remain over the future of Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who has attracted interest from Serie A clubs and may not remain at the club beyond this window.
Vicario and Antonin Kinsky both served as Spurs’ number one goalkeeper at various points last season, with Kinsky eventually finishing the campaign as the first choice.
The 23-year-old Czech goalkeeper produced a stunning save against Leeds United that proved vital in keeping De Zerbi’s side in the Premier League during the run-in.
However, Kinsky endured a difficult night in March when he was replaced in the 17th minute of their Champions League last-16 tie at Atletico Madrid after conceding three goals.
Dubravka, who has previously played for Newcastle United and Manchester United, brings considerable experience to the squad with 197 Premier League appearances and 51 clean sheets to his name.
Speaking after completing his move, Dubravka expressed his excitement at joining the north London club and working under De Zerbi’s management.
“It’s an exciting time for me, a new journey and new experience for me and my family. I’m looking forward to it,” Dubravka said.
“Everything moved pretty quickly and I’m really happy to be here. I’ve loved watching Roberto’s teams over the years and know all about his style, vision and the fantastic fans here.”
De Zerbi also spoke warmly about his new signing, highlighting what Dubravka would bring to the dressing room environment at Spurs.
“I am very happy because Martin is a goalkeeper with big experience and a strong mentality. He has very important qualities for me and will bring balance, leadership and competitiveness to our dressing room,” the manager added.
Elsewhere, Spurs saw an offer worth around £80 million for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali rejected by the Magpies last week, suggesting further transfer business could still be on the horizon.
