Denmark’s national team doctor Morten Boesen says Christian Eriksen is doing well following his collapse during the international friendly against Ukraine.

The match in Odense was stopped on 65 minutes after Eriksen fell to the ground and was subsequently abandoned shortly after the incident.

The 34-year-old was able to walk from the field under his own power after regaining consciousness, offering an immediate sense of relief to those present.

Boesen confirmed he had spoken directly with the midfielder and found him to be in a positive state following the alarming incident.

“I spoke with Christian this morning, and he is doing well. He is with his family and in good spirits,” Boesen said.

“The expectation is that he will be discharged soon and can return home,” the Denmark team doctor added.

Eriksen has been fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator, a type of pacemaker, since suffering a cardiac arrest during Euro 2020 against Finland in 2021.

Boesen confirmed on Sunday that the device performed as intended, stating “the pacemaker responded as it should” during the collapse.

The ICD had previously allowed Eriksen to return to professional football with Brentford in 2022, just eight months after his frightening collapse at the European Championship.

The former Manchester United and Tottenham midfielder went on to spend three years at Old Trafford before joining Wolfsburg.

Speaking ahead of his comeback in 2022, Eriksen had expressed full confidence in his safety while playing with the device fitted.

“I don’t see any risk, no. I have an ICD, if anything would happen then I am safe,” the Wolfsburg midfielder said.

Neither Denmark nor Ukraine had qualified for the World Cup, which begins on Thursday, meaning this fixture was part of their preparations outside of the tournament.
