Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has promised to make the biggest transfer in the club’s history if he wins Sunday’s presidential election.
Perez told Spanish TV show Horizonte he plans to make an offer of “at least around 150m” euros for an attacking midfielder from a major Champions League club.
The 79-year-old was keen to manage expectations, ruling out several high-profile names already linked with a potential move to the Bernabeu.
“Olise is a great player but it’s not Olise,” Perez said, also confirming that Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku and Erling Haaland were not his intended targets.
Perez added that the mystery player “is not from the Premier League,” narrowing the field considerably as speculation mounts ahead of Sunday’s vote.
“He needs to be a player from midfield who can go forward,” Perez said, describing the move as one designed to generate excitement among Real Madrid’s fanbase.
“It’s a signing meant to generate excitement because that’s what it’s all about, generating excitement,” he added, echoing the ambition of his famous Galacticos era.
Perez first introduced that Galacticos policy following his initial election in 2000, bringing world-class players including Luis Figo, David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane to the club.
Real Madrid are owned entirely by their members, with nearly 100,000 of them set to vote on Sunday, each paying an annual membership fee of around £130.
Perez is facing a presidential contest for the first time in 20 years, with renewable energy magnate Enrique Riquelme having stepped forward as a challenger.
Riquelme had earlier promised to sign Haaland if elected, a claim that prompted Manchester City to state there is “no chance” of such a transfer, with the club threatening legal action.
The contest comes after a difficult season in which Real Madrid ended the 2025-26 campaign without a major trophy for the second consecutive year, finishing eight points behind La Liga champions Barcelona.
Perez also told voters that his re-election would activate already-agreed deals for manager Jose Mourinho, Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, and Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate, whose contract at Anfield will not be renewed.
