Robertson has officially joined Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer after departing Liverpool when his contract expired this summer.
The Scotland captain, aged 32, will formally become a Spurs player on 1 July following the end of his long and decorated spell at Anfield.
Robertson’s move to north London was not straightforward, with Tottenham first targeting the left-back during the January transfer window under then-manager Thomas Frank.
A deal was agreed between the clubs in January, but Liverpool pulled out after they were unable to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at Roma.
With Robertson now a free agent, Spurs moved quickly to secure his signature as new manager Roberto de Zerbi builds his squad for the season ahead.
De Zerbi guided Tottenham to Premier League survival on the final day of the season, with the club beating Everton to secure their top-flight status.
The Italian coach made clear his admiration for the veteran defender, saying: “Andy is someone I’ve admired for a number of years and he will bring outstanding technical qualities, experience, leadership and mentality to our team.”
De Zerbi added: “He is a proven winner at the highest level over a long period and is someone who can be a big player for us, both on and off the pitch.”
Robertson joined Liverpool from Hull City in 2017 and went on to make 378 appearances for the club, winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League along the way.
He also lifted the FA Cup and the League Cup on two occasions, establishing himself as one of the most decorated left-backs in the modern era of English football.
The Scottish international has amassed 92 caps for his country and will captain Scotland at this summer’s World Cup, adding further prestige to his profile as Spurs aim to rebuild.
Tottenham sporting director Johan Lange spoke warmly of the signing, saying: “His quality, character and leadership have been evident throughout a career in which he has regularly competed for – and won – major honours.”
Lange continued: “Andy’s professionalism and commitment will also be invaluable to the development of our squad, and he shares our ambition and determination to bring success back to the club.”
Robertson’s arrival signals Tottenham’s intent to strengthen significantly as De Zerbi looks to transform a side that only narrowly avoided relegation last season.
