Mason Greenwood has emerged as the top transfer priority for both candidates seeking the Fenerbahce presidency ahead of a crunch vote this Sunday.

Former president Aziz Yildirim and rival candidate Hakan Safi are competing for control of the Turkish club, with an announcement on the outcome expected on Sunday.

Despite their battle for the presidency, the two candidates are united in their desire to bring Greenwood to Fenerbahce this summer.

The 24-year-old forward has endured a difficult few months at Marseille, where he has attracted significant interest from elsewhere in Europe.

Marseille’s new sporting director Gregory Lorenzi said last week that the club was willing to listen to offers for Greenwood.

Greenwood still has three years remaining on the five-year contract he signed when he joined Marseille on a permanent basis from Manchester United in July 2024.

It is not anticipated that personal terms would prove a problem for Fenerbahce in any potential deal for the forward.

Greenwood has scored 48 goals in 81 appearances for Marseille, finishing joint second in the Ligue 1 golden boot standings this season with 16 goals, behind Rennes’ Esteban Lepaul.

Fenerbahce finished second for the fifth successive season in the Turkish Super Lig and will enter the Champions League in the second qualifying round in July.

Manchester United included what club sources described as a “sizeable sell-on fee” when they sold Greenwood to Marseille for 31.6 million euros, equivalent to £26.6 million.

Greenwood has had to rebuild his career following charges of attempted rape and assault, which were dropped in February 2023, after an internal United investigation concluded he could not play for the club again.

In April, new Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi was forced to apologise for defending Greenwood during his time managing Marseille.

Fenerbahce are not the only club monitoring the forward’s situation, with Greenwood also linked to Serie A side Roma in recent days.
