AS report that the French striker has agreed terms with Madrid to extend his current deal but is unwilling to make it public knowledge until after his country’s World Cup campaign.
Talks began between Benzema and Madrid following last season as officials at the club became concerned as he approached his final year with the club, prompting interest from the likes of Arsenal, Juventus and Liverpool.
France, who meet Germany on Friday in the World Cup quarter-finals, are looking a good bet to win the tournament in Brazil, with Benzema leading the attack.
He is expected to wear the number ten shirt at Madrid next season, making way for Colombian striker Radamel Falcao, who has agreed terms and will wear number nine.
