Juventus have quietly informed Premier League clubs that Andrea Cambiaso is available for transfer this summer, triggering a three-way battle between Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United for the 26-year-old Italy international. The full-back is reportedly ready to leave Turin after establishing himself as one of the most tactically versatile defenders in Serie A, and Juventus are said to be willing to sanction a deal in the region of £30 million, a figure considered a relative bargain given his age, experience, and adaptability.
Cambiaso joined Juventus from Genoa in 2022 following a successful loan spell at Bologna, and has made nearly 150 appearances for the club across all competitions, contributing eight goals and 17 assists from a defensive position. His ability to operate at left-back, right-back, wing-back on either flank, and even as a central midfielder has made him one of the most coveted utility players in Europe. Juventus teammate Kenan Yildiz offered the most telling endorsement, saying: “He is an extraordinary player with incredible skill. Having someone like him on the field is crucial, both in attack and defense.”
Manchester United’s interest is the most urgent given the squad context. With Luke Shaw heading toward his mid-30s and carrying a persistent injury history, and Tyrell Malacia departing as a free agent, United are in genuine need of a reliable left-back who can operate within a back four. Under caretaker manager Michael Carrick’s preferred structure, full-backs are asked to contribute significantly to build-up play, and Cambiaso’s comfort on the ball under pressure makes him ideally suited to those demands.
Bruno Fernandes, United’s captain, has reportedly been vocal internally about the signing, pushing INEOS to prioritise the deal. Transfer insider Ben Jacobs has confirmed that United have already been in talks with Cambiaso’s camp for several weeks to establish personal terms and gauge the player’s openness to moving to Manchester, with those conversations described as productive.
Arsenal’s interest speaks to Mikel Arteta’s appetite for marginal gains even when the squad appears well-stocked. Cambiaso’s two-footed flexibility would give Arteta a player capable of covering Ben White, Jurrien Timber, and Oleksandr Zinchenko without a drop in technical standard. Arteta is reportedly drawn to his ability to step inside into the press and create numerical advantages in midfield phases, the kind of positional intelligence the Gunners have built their entire game model around.
Liverpool’s case is perhaps the most structurally driven. Andrew Robertson departs as a free agent this summer, and both summer signings Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez have struggled to consistently meet the demands Arne Slot places on his full-backs. Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy put the situation plainly, saying: “The new signings apart from Ekitike, Wirtz, I know he is out injured, he has had a pickle, but full-back areas, problem. Frimpong not as good as Trent, Kerkez can’t do what Robertson could do.” A player capable of performing credibly on either side of the defence would address multiple issues simultaneously.
Juventus hold a contract until 2029 and have no pressure to sell, but their willingness to make Cambiaso’s availability known to clubs suggests internal planning has shifted. Italian interest from Inter Milan, Napoli, and Como exists but Premier League financial power gives English clubs the edge if they commit decisively. At £30 million, the race for one of Europe’s most complete defenders represents outstanding value, and whichever of the three clubs moves fastest is likely to win it.
