Former Tottenham Hotspur head coach Andre Villas-Boas has reportedly set his sights on luring midfielder Sandro to Zenit St Petersburg from his former club.

The Portugese, who was sacked by the north London outfit before Christmas following a poor run of form which culminated in a 5-0 home loss at the hands of Liverpool, is looking to rebuild Zenit’s squad this summer.

And La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Brazil international Sandro is at the top of his shopping list, with Villas-Boas ready to go head-to-head with fellow suitors Napoli and Inter Milan to secure his services.

The Serie A duo are in the hunt for the 25-year-old according to Italian source Tutto Mercato Web, with Napoli even putting together a £12.8million offer.

Sandro, who has two years left on his contract at White Hart Lane, endured an inconsistent 2013-14 campaign which often saw him either injured or restricted to substitute appearances under Villas-Boas and his successor Tim Sherwood, who was also dismissed.

The midfield man faces an anxious wait to discover if he figures in the long-term plans of new head coach Mauricio Pochettino, who penned a five-year contract following his arrival from Southampton.

Sandro could be on the move if he does not receive reassurances over his status.
