New Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is set for a summer battle with former club Barcelona over the signing of Fiorentina star Juan Cuadrado.

The 26-year-old has been in superb form for Colombia so far in the World Cup and has further enhanced his reputation as one of the most exciting forward players in world football.

Cuadrado who has been utilised by Fiorentina at right-back and right wing in recent seasons, can also adapt and play central, left or even as a lone forward, making his rating even higher than normal.

Dutch boss Louis van Gaal has been pleased with Cuadrado’s performances for Colombia in Brazil, where he has partnered with James Rodriguez to make his national side look like potential World Cup winners.

But his interest is now being followed by the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich, with Italian press in Florence stating that all three are edging closer and closer to a deal.

The reports go on to say that a deal worth around £30m is likely to prize the Colombian from Fiorentina, although Barcelona officials are determined that German champions Bayern would be willing to pay more.
