Fulham secured a dramatic 2-2 draw with Liverpool thanks to a stunning 97th-minute strike from Harrison Reed.

The Cottagers looked set to suffer defeat after Cody Gakpo’s late goal appeared to hand the Premier League champions all three points.

However, Reed’s sensational long-range effort turned the game on its head, leaving the home crowd celebrating a share of the spoils at Craven Cottage.

The match offered few clear-cut scoring opportunities for either side, reflecting a tense and tightly contested affair.

Liverpool’s Gakpo missed a significant chance early on, while Harry Wilson’s first shot on target for Fulham in the 17th minute underwent a lengthy VAR review for offside before being allowed.

In the second half, Liverpool struck the crossbar, and Florian Wirtz scored a goal that was initially flagged offside before VAR intervention confirmed it.

Wilson later hit the woodwork again for Fulham, and Gakpo converted at the back post, prompting some home fans to begin leaving.

Yet Fulham had the final word, with Reed’s 35-yard strike arrowing into the top corner to stun the champions.

    Silva: Draw Was Fair

Fulham manager Marco Silva insisted that a draw was the right outcome given the flow of the game.

“If we happened to lose that game, then it would have been completely unfair for us,” Silva said.

“Our first goal was a brilliant one. The combinations, the opposite runs from Harry and Raúl (Jiménez) were top level, and what a finish from Harry again. Every time he touches the ball now, he’s capable of doing something magical for us – and he did it again.”

Silva praised his side’s defensive organisation in the first half, which limited Liverpool’s chances.

“After the equaliser, Liverpool were better and it boosted their confidence. They pushed us more back and made it difficult for us, but we reacted well again and showed composure. One of the biggest chances was Harry Wilson at 1-1 off the crossbar. In the end, it’s a fair result because it was not a game for us to lose at all.”

Liverpool manager Arne Slot acknowledged his team had opportunities to claim victory but had to settle for a point in a match that Fulham fought tirelessly to salvage.
