Real Madrid are lining up a move for Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi as they consider potential replacements for Sergio Ramos.
The World Cup winning centre-back has been a pinnacle figure at the Santiago Bernabeu in recent seasons, playing well under boss Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti.
Benitez’s arrival at Madrid has caused some doubts with Ramos leading a long list of players to question president Florentino Perez’s plans.
His unhappiness is said to be interesting a number of clubs with Man United boss Louis van Gaal heavily linked to a move with reports on Monday evening claiming that an improved second bid has been made.
And, it is now reported in Spanish press that the capital side have made an offer for Valencia defender Mustafi, who is tipped to replace Ramos next season and play alongside Portuguese centre-back Pepe.
The news will buoy United, who are keen to sign the Spanish defender.
