Liverpool move for Benteke after missing out on Colombian hitman

Liverpool are ready to make a serious bid for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, Football Express News understands.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has already begun spending this summer after capturing Danny Ings, Nathaniel Clyne and much talked about Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino.

However, the Northern Irish boss is not stopping their and has now told bosses at the club to make a serious summer bid for Villa front-man Benteke.

Liverpool seriously struggled last season to replace Luis Suarez, who went on to win the treble with Barcelona in Spain.

Daniel Sturridge’s constant injury problems remain a concern, whilst Mario Balotelli’s failings at Anfield have prompted interest some goalscoring targets.

A move for Sevilla star Carlos Bacca was expected, however, his move to AC Milan looks set to be completed this week, leaving Liverpool no choice but to make a move for Belgian striker Benteke.

Benteke struggled for fitness at the start of last season but returned to fire Villa to the FA Cup final, where they lost to Arsenal back in May.
