Manchester City are ready to make a summer move for Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph, according to reports.

The England international has a release clause of just £10 million in the contract he signed earlier this year, and City hope to lure him to the Etihad Stadium.

The former Leeds United midfielder has been one of Villa’s stand-out players this season and has been credited with a role in Roy Hodgson’s England side.

Liverpool and Arsenal have been interested, whilst Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal was reported to have contacted Villa about his availability.

City are keen to improve their midfield options this summer and believe Delph can add extra bite and youthfulness in that area of the pitch.

Villa boss Tim Sherwood does not want the midfielder to leave the club, but his £10m clause is causing problems.
