Reports in Italy suggest that Pepe Reina is set to join Napoli from Bayern Munich.

The 32 year old was previously on loan to Napoli for a season from Liverpool, Reina helped Napoli win the Coppa Italia the season he was there.

The 33 times capped Spanish international, spent 9 seasons at Liverpool, before Simon Mignolet was brought in to replace him, he then went to Napoli on loan, before a permanent move to Bavarian giants Bayern Munich in 2014.

At Bayern, Reina was second choice to Manuel Neuer, arguably the best keeper in the world, and Reina only played 2 senior matches for Bayern, and was sent off in one, not a bad ratio!

Napoli who are under new management this season with Maurizio Sarri in charge, who managed Empoli in Serie A last season, have identified Reina to give them some leadership in the dressing room, and knows the Sicilian club well from his season with them. A few has yet to be agreed but is believed to be around the £6 million mark.

Writers View – Pepe Reina over recent seasons is a bit of a mystery. Why Liverpool replaced him I do not know as in my opinion he is a better keeper than Simon Mignolet and also why he joined Bayern Munich when Manual Neuer at the club made no sense when at the time if he was playing regularly an opportunity was there with Spain as Casillas was struggling. Anyhow, if this deal comes off Napoli have a good keeper on their books and one who has a reputation for being an excellent team mate and a leader in the dressing room. Very good signing.
