NO DEAL: Liverpool tell Man City to pay more than £40m for Sterling

Manchester City have been told by Liverpool that they must pay £40m for Raheem Sterling this summer, according to reports.

Liverpool are keen to receive a big payout should the England international leave the club this summer and it is understood that they will accept nothing less than £40m.

Manchester City had a bid of just over half that amount – £25m, rejected last week by the Merseyside club and a further increased bid of £30m rejected in the last few days.

Sterling has become one of the most talked about players in the English game, both for his on field performances and his contract negotiations off it.

Having made over 90 league games for the Reds in four seasons, Sterling is now expected to leave.

Some reports have claimed that the tricky winger wants to work with Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal, whilst Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is also said to be monitoring the situation.
