Goal are reporting that Chelsea are keen to acquire the services of Stoke City goalkeeper, Asmir Begovic if Petr Cech leaves Chelsea as is expected this summer.

The Bosnian international keeper is 27 years old, and has 1 year left on his current contract at Stoke where he has been first choice goalkeeper since 2010 making 160 appearances and 1 goal! Goal scored against Southampton after only 13 seconds.

The player is believed to be interested in the move, however has some concerns over being a second choice keeper to Thibaut Courtois. Chelsea have offered a lucrative salary and have been keen to point out that Cech made 16 appearances last season, and want Begovic to play a similar amount.

Writers View – Is it me or should keepers want to go to a club and play almost every game? Begovic would be going to a big club but Champions League matches and top of the table clashes barring injuries, Chelsea’s choice will be Courtois. Appreciate only so many big teams out there and you want to win trophies, but in my opinion Begovic is better than being a second choice, and should wait to see what happens in keeper positions elsewhere, or sit tight with Stoke for time being.
