Tottenham prepare bid for Barcelona defender

Spurs are hoping to bring Barcelona’s forgotten man, Marc Barta, to White Hart Lane at a bargain price.

Marc Barta has fallen out of favour at Barcelona and the defender, who was once lauded as one of Europe’s future stars, has been left growing increasingly frustrated at the Nou Camp.

Spurs, who are very much in the market for a centre-back, are hoping to bring the Spanish international to North London. Tottenham have struggled to establish a solid and reliable defensive partnership in recent seasons and this weakness has really cost them.

Mauricio Pochettino has certainly highlighted the area as a problem and has reportedly put Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches up for sale.

Barta, 24, has a release clause in his contract which means Spurs could get their man for as little as £8million. However, Spurs will face fierce competition as the likes of Liverpool, Dortmund and Bayern Munich also considering bids.

Spurs are hoping to bring several new faces to White Hart Lane this summer, with Pochettino determined not to rush into deals and bring in another series of flops as they did after selling Gareth Bale to Real Madrid. Christian Benteke has also been heavily linked with Spurs and if they could sign him and Barta they are signings that would surely excite the Tottenham faithful.
