Aspas returns to Celta Vigo

Iago Aspas is set to return to his boyhood club Celta Vigo from Sevilla according to reports in Spain.

The 27 year old striker was only bought by Sevilla last month, after they exercised their option to buy him after being loaned to them by Liverpool.

However, Sevilla have decided to sell after the player only scored 2 goals in 16 starts for the club last season. Aspas made his name at Celta Vigo, and indeed it was his performances for the club that caught Liverpool’s eye and made them part with £7 million in 2013. Aspas scored 12 goals in 34 league appearances for the Spanish side and he played a massive part that season in Celta Vigo avoiding relegation that season.

His time at Liverpool I think to be kind, let’s say, did not work out. And my own memory of him was arguably the worst corner taken I have ever seen in a match against Chelsea. He made 15 appearances for Liverpool scoring once.

Writers View – Hopefully Aspas going back to a club he performed well for will give confidence to the player and we will see again a player who is technically gifted and a decent player, which is not the player Sevilla or Liverpool fans have seen donning their colours.
