Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is set to force through a move to Real Madrid by handing in a transfer request, according to various reports.

The Spanish international, pictured with Real Madrid keeper Iker Casillas, has been increasingly linked with a move to the Spanish capital to replace his national team-mate.

Talks of a proposed £25m summer move have been frequent in both English and Spanish press with terms over a personal agreement said to have been agreed.

Tensions are rising between De Gea and Casillas as both prepare for Spain’s upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers, and it is now understood that the former is ready to hand in a transfer request to force through his move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

United officials did offer the keeper a new and improved deal to remain at Old Trafford but it is understood that the former Atletico Madrid stopper rejected a lucrative offer.

United are now preparing to move for other targets, having been linked with Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris and Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic.
