Arsenal defender to return to West Ham as Gignac flies in for talks

Talks are currently taking place between Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson’s representatives and West Ham over a possible renewing of his 1 year loan deal.

Jenkinson had a terrific season at the Boleyn Ground last season, and will be warmly welcomed back by everyone connected with the club.

Jenkinson had begun to fall down the pecking order at Arsenal after the signings of Mathieu Debuchy and Hector Bellerin, and with major international tournaments around the corner, Jenkinson will want to make sure he has regular first team football.

West Ham are also looking to bolster their attacking options with reports coming in today that Marseille strike Andre-Pierre Gignac is flying into London for talks today.

The French international score 21 goals in 37 league starts for Marseille in Ligue 1 last season, showing a clear eye for goal, exactly what West Ham need in Slaven Bilic’s new reign.

Only Diafra Sakho was able to regularly find the net despite limited appearances, and was the only player to reach double figures in the goalscoring charts for the Hammers last year.

After the departures of Carlton Cole and Nene, West Ham only have an unfit Andy Carroll, an out of form Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho available. So investment in this area of the squad is key. It’s yet to be confirmed if Mauro Zarate has a part to play in this season.

Writer’s View: Jenkinson is an absolute no brainer if he is available again for West Ham. Gignac is a proven goalscorer, something they’ve lacked in recent seasons. Him and Sakho could cause big problems for defences
