Daily Mirror are reporting today that Tottenham Hotspur are the first club to show a firm interest for Burnley defender Kieran Trippier.

It is widely believed that within Trippier’s contract is a £3.5 million release clause, and Spurs may well take up the option to activate it.

The 24 year old right back has been linked since the end of the season with Liverpool and Southampton, and is believed to be keen to a return to the Premiership following Burnley’s relegation last season.

Trippier had 12 assists in the Championship for Burnley in 2013-2014 season and 4 assists last season for Burnley, a very good return for a right back, he is an outstanding crosser of a football and very technically sound, Harry Kane would enjoy getting service into the box from this player in particular.

Writers View – With injury doubts hanging over Kyle Walker for a while now, I can see why Trippier would interest them, especially at a bargain price as reports suggest, £12 million for Nathaniel Clyne or £3.5 million for Trippier, I know which I would go for.

My only slight reservation is that Spurs have another right back at the club who I think has the raw attributes to be a bit of a star in the Premiership, that being a young American international, DeAndre Yedlin. So if not Spurs, Trippier certainly deserves a club in the Premiership.
