Super Mario to fill Falcao gap at Man United

Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic is the latest high profile striker linked with a move to Manchester United.

It’s been widely reported that the big Croat is keen on a move to England, and has been offered a move from current employers Athletico Madrid after a rumoured falling with their coaching staff.

Mandzukic had scored 20 goals for Athletico by as early as February, but slowly began to fall out of favour. He didn’t score another goal for them that season.

United were previously linked with him during David Moyes’ reign, while at Bayern Munich. But he opted for a move to Spain instead, filling the boots of departing hero Diego Costa.

With Falcao not signing a new deal with the Red Devils and a van Persie move looking more and more likely by the day, United need to make sure they still have the fire-power up top to keep them on terms with Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal in what promises to be a very close race for the title next term.

Writer’s view: Mandzukic is the next in a line of forwards to be linked with a move to Manchester United. Attacking winger Mephis Depay, and strikers Karim Benzema and Carlos Bacca are all names that have been linked. But this speculation is likely to surface when your club is as big as Man United with a huge pot of available funds.

Mandzukic would be more of a van Persie replacement for me, and they’ll need to look elsewhere for a player of Falcao’s ilk.
