Arsenal to miss out on £8m Mexican ace

Arsenal are set to miss out on Espanyol defender Hector Moreno as Southampton made moves to sign the defensive ace, according to Daily Mirror.

The Mexican defender was in fine form last season and has attracted the attention of a number of top European sides due to his consistent performances.

Tottenham Hotspur are leading the way with interest from the Premier League after visiting the Barcelona-based side this season to cast an eye over the defender.

Whilst, Spurs are favourites to sign the defender due to Mauricio Pochettino’s links with his former club – Arsenal are also now keen.

The Gunners have also been monitoring his performances of late and are buoyed by his relatively small asking price of around £8m.

Moreno, 27, is said to be keen on a move to the latter and Football Express News understood last month that he wanted to join the Gunners.

However, Southampton have now jumped ahead of both Spurs and Arsene Wenger’s side, having prepared a concrete offer, just in case their bid for Toby Alderweireld failed.
