Inter confirm interest in Benatia

According to Football Italia, Inter Milan’s new Vice President Javier Zanetti has confirmed that some talks have taken place in respect of trying to get Mehdi Benatia from Bayern Munich to Inter Milan.

Benatia 28 years of age, Moroccan international, played 15 times for the Bavarian giants last season, and is thought to be interested in coming back to Italy, where he had two successful periods of football with Udinese and AS Roma.

In terms of Roma, the football side he was a success, however he left under a cloud of controversy. Benatia stated in his press conference announcing his move to Bayern that he never wanted to leave Roma but they needed the money of his sale (nearly £19 million).

However, the Roma president on hearing this stated this was untrue and that Benatia was a “poisonous liar” and that is why they sold him.

Whatever is the reason for the sale, he has played in some important games for Bayern, but I am surprised by the reasonably small amount of matches he played in the season. Bayern who have Boateng, Van Buyten, Badstuber and Martinez on their books who can play centre back, maybe open to the sale, but a long way to go.

Writers View – Benatia would do a decent job for the Nerrazzuri, however will not come cheap, lot of work needed to secure his services.
