Ron Vlaar is set to leave Aston Villa this summer and could join Manchester United on a cheap deal, Football Express News understands.
The Dutch defender is entering the final year on his contract and it is the likes of Manchester United’s interest that is keeping him from negotiating new terms with Paul Lambert’s Aston Villa.
United boss Louis van Gaal has already spent big since he joined the club this summer but failed to purchase a new central defender, playing youngster Tyler Blackett, who despite impressing is not expected to hold down his place in the starting eleven moving forward to next season.
Vlaar has worked with Van Gaal whilst on international duty with Netherlands and has a good partnership with Daley Blind, who joined United from Ajax this summer.
Whilst talks between Villa and United have been maintained, it is now reported that Napoli are also interested.
Vlaar is now set to depart the Midlands club for a relatively cheap price.
