Former Newcastle United midfielder desperate for Palace switch

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Yohan Cabaye has turned down a potential move to Aston Villa because he wants to join Crystal Palace, according to The Sun.

The current Paris Saint Germain midfielder is frustrated at a lack of first team opportunities at the Parisien club and is looking to come back to England, where he starred for Newcastle United.

The 29-year-old, 38 times capped French international, has worked with Alan Pardew previously at Newcastle and is understood to be keen to move from the Ligue 1 champions this summer.

The French club paid £18 million for his services, but are rumoured to be looking for around £10 million after seeing him fail to force his way into the starting eleven past the likes of Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi.

Reports on Thursday morning claim that he has turned down the chance to join Aston Villa and that he wants to link back up with Pardew at Selhurst Park.

The transfer fee and wages will really stretch Crystal Palace, but they maybe able to get some funds from reported sales of Mile Jedinak to West Brom, James McArthur to Norwich and Dwight Gayle to Bournemouth.
