Chelsea leapfrog Man United in race for £30m Argentine striker

Chelsea are ready to leapfrog Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool in the race for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to Tuttomercatoweb.com.

The Argentina international is set to leave Napoli this summer, and a host of top clubs have been reported to be keen on landing his signature.

Serie A giants Juventus have apparently been holding talks with Higuain’s brother about a transition, but now reports suggest that he will look to leave Italian football and make a move to England.

A whole host of clubs have been linked with the former Real Madrid striker, but claims that he has been handed a £42m asking price are said to be causing problems.

The £57,000-a-week ace’s transfer fee is still being debated but reports in Italian press on Wednesday morning claim that Chelsea have begun talks over a cheaper £30m deal.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his attacking options after Diego Costa called for a return to Spanish football in the last few days.
