Former Chelsea captain Ron Harris is of the view that England supporters who spent hundreds or even thousands on airfares and hotel costs for Brazil should be compensated by the players who let them down.
Harris, 69, said people have saved their hard-earned cash and spent fortunes on travel costs to enable them to go to World Cup, only to be let down by lacklustre performances displayed by the England squad.
This spectacle, in his view, served as very poor justice to those faithful supporters.
He said the England players are due to receive hundreds of thousands of pounds for their time in Brazil and should put their hands in their pockets in order to compensate the supporters for their loyalty.
He told Football Express News: “When you think how much money it costs to go to Brazil, some poor fellas have spent their life savings on going to the World Cup this year.
“It’s the equivalent of half a day’s pay for some of these players, and they put in a dismal performance.
“All those people who have travelled across the other side of the world to support them, the players should offer to give them their money back.”
“I can sum up England’s performances in four letters,” he added, “sh*t.”
