Man United only club left in Gundogan race

Bayern Munich have pulled out of the running to sign Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund, according to Bild.

The German international is fully expected to arrive at Old Trafford this summer amidst reports he has signed a pre-contract.

Having struggled in recent seasons with injuries, the midfielder has returned to find his best form for Bundesliga side Bortmund, impressing United and a number of other European sides.

However, despite United’s interest and claimed contract; further reports in German press claimed that Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola had offered a contract worth just under £6m-per-season.

Guardiola is keen to bring in a number of players this season at Allianz Arena after failing to qualify for the final of the Champions League for a second consecutive season.

But, reports in Bild have now said that Bayern have pulled out of the race to sign the midfielder, following concerns about his fitness.

The World Cup winner has cited a desire to move on and try his luck abroad before he ages.
