Christian Benteke’s time at Aston Villa could be about to end after the striker admitted that he wants Champions league football.
According to Sky Sports, the Belgian’s representative Eric Kismet revealed the player wants to join one of Europe’s elite and play in the premier European competition.
Villa are reportedly reluctant to sell the forward even if the £32.5 million release clause if met.
Benteke is currently on International duty and didn’t want to be drawn on the rumours about an imminent departure from the Midlands side. He said: “I don’t know about Aston Villa now, I did my season with them and now I am focused on the national team.”
An array of Premier League sides have been heavily linked with the striker. Arsenal and Liverpool have expressed strong interest and could make a move in the coming weeks.
Benteke has been a huge hit since arriving in England with an impressive 49 goals in 101 appearances over three seasons for a side constantly battling relegation.
Writers view: I think Benteke will all but certainly leave Villa this summer. He has been a huge factor behind maintaining Premier League status but the club would benefit hugely from the money his release clause would provide.
