Liverpool tell Benitez to increase offer

Reina

Liverpool will reportedly allow goalkeeper Pepe Reina to rejoin Napoli on loan if the Serie A outfit agree to pay more than half of his wages.

The Spaniard spent last season with the Italian side, who funded 50 per cent of his salary for the duration of the 2013-14 campaign.

However, according to Il Mattino, the Reds will only grant their former manager Rafael Benitez permission to lure his compatriot back to Naples if the Italians make room in their budget to cover the majority of Reina’s earnings.

He is thought to be on a lucrative contract worth in excess of £100,000 per week at Anfield, which still has two years left to run.

Spain’s premature exit from the World Cup saw the 31-year-old head back to Merseyside but he is unlikely to stay, having lost his place in the team to Belgium shot-stopper Simon Mignolet.

He was an unused substitute in the first two games of the tournament as his national side crashed out at the group stage following back-to-back defeats at the hands of Holland and Chile.

However, Reina was recalled to the side for their last fixture and kept a clean sheet in the 3-0 consolation win against Australia.
